How to measure your Torso length

One important aspect to finding a comfortable backpack is to choose one that fits you well. Your torso length, not your height, is the measurement that will determine whether to choose a extra small, small, medium or large pack. The torso length does not determine the capacity of the pack, it correlates to the length of the back panel from the bottom of the pack to the section where the shoulder straps are attached.

How to measure your torso length

you will need a flexible tape measure and a friend to help measure you.

The measurement you need is from your iliac crest to your C7 vertebra.

  1. Locate your C7 vertebra by standing up and resting your chin on your chest. At the base of your neck find the bony bump protruding where your shoulders meet your neck. This is your C7 vertebra.
  2.   Place your hands on the top of your hip bones, fingers pointing forwards and thumbs pointing backwards. at the middle point on your back between your thumbs is the point of your iliac crest that we want to measure to.
  3. Stand up straight and measure from your C7 vertebra to your iliac crest. This is your Torso length.
